Absolute superiority

So I went to Julian once again and this time the trip was even more enjoyable.

The car does best on downhill where there is no need to use the breaks... it just regenerates.

But uphill and on curves its true characteristics and the low center of gravity due to the battery pack make it an awesome rocket that carves the road like it would be on rails.

Passing other motorists is incredibly easy and reminds me of riding a high power motorcycle like a Ducati I used to own a few years back.

This is especially important as along the whole of the 79 there are only 2 spots where one can legally pass and both are less then 1/2 mile in length so an ultra fast speedup followed by a quick slow down is necessary to stay within the range of the dotted line and with a good sight of the opposing traffic.

The smoothness of the power curve is, well, just that: Linear and swift.

The mountains is where a high performance EV really shows how much electrics are mechanically and performance wise far superior to any gasoline contraption.

It's like being a jet among biplanes, a race horse among donkeys.

And yes the battery can carry me up to 4500 ft of altitude effortlessly... and because there is no need for oxygen the performance actually gets better by a small margin due to less air resistance.

If a lucky few Tibetans got their hands on an i3 they would probably marvel and how the car is smoothly accelerating no matter the height and how it actually goes faster the higher one goes up the plateau.

  1. Man I'm with you on this EV experience. Had an i3 BEV for just over 12,000km now and will never go back to an inefficient, rough, noisy, costly and dirty ICE. Do my charging mainly from residential solar so cost me nothing to drive. In the words of Peder Norby on BMW blogspot
"Never before has it been possible for a homeowner to create their own energy for their home and cars. Never before has it been possible to power a home and cars with carbon free, emission free, energy that is less expensive than fossil fuels. Never before has it been possible to so broadly share the wealth of energy among both individuals and corporations with equity to all reaches of our planet"
And all this without actually loosing anything in the thrill of motoring. In fact motoring seems significantly enhanced by driving an EV.
